The Diocese awards annual support stipends to deserving mission communities.
The following are some of the characteristics of the grant process:
- Grant awards are made only to mission communities which the Mission
Development Committee feels exhibit the necessary characteristics to
become vibrant actively growing parishes within a reasonable future
time frame and where the grant can make a difference
to the community either in accelerating the community’s journey to
parish status or in helping to lay a proper foundation for a future
healthy parish.
- Grants are awarded in January and begin in July of that year. Most grants are paid on a monthly basis for 12 months.
- A community may receive a maximum of five grants.
- The grant process begins with filling out a grant application as part of its annual report.
- Grants will tend to occur early in the Mission’s life.
- The grant review process involves a review of mission community reports and
applications by all committee members and discussing and ranking each
applicant community by the committee.
- Final decisions for grant amounts are made based on the amount of money
available, the number of applicants, recent progress made by
applicants, past grants provided to applicant communities and the
apparent impact of those grants.
- The grants amounts are the consensus of the entire committee.
- Feedback reports are provided to the applicant missions. Often the mission
development committee will request particular actions by the community
or give particular assignments to be completed by the community as part
of the grant follow up process.
